If I could say it in words there would be no reason to paint

Hi I’m Gill

I love to paint. Its as simple as that!

I am inspired by the light and the colour of the sea, the reflections in the sand, and the changing scenery as the tides ebb and flow. I live on the small island of Guernsey, where Renoir spent a month and was captivated by the beauty of the bays.

I hope to be able to share some of the salty air, brisk sea breezes, and quiet country corners of my island home with you.

Art for your home

life is better with original art.

It’s an amazing feeling to squeeze paint out of tubes, to mix colours that are never the same, to transform a canvas into a work of art. And its a privilege and a joy when you choose to bring a piece of my work into your home. Thank you for your interest in my work.

I’m so glad you’re here!

Cyanotypes

During lockdown in spring 2020 I discovered the joy of making cyanotypes. On some levels it’s an easy process, but its quite difficult to get consistently good results. The unpredictability of it I find quite exciting! This trial and error journey continued all summer…

THE CYANOTYPE PROCESS

The process begins by coating a piece of watercolor paper with a light-sensitive solution. When objects such as leaves are placed on the paper they act as masks when it is left in sunlight.
After a few minutes the paper turns brown or blue but where the objects were remains creamy white. The paper is then washed and dried and the blue deepens into a lovely deep indigo.
